Istanbul Calling

6/6/2012

Finally arrived in Istanbul, after a impromptu stop off on the way to istanbul from Abu Dhabi. (Etihad airlines decided not to fill the fuel tank up enough to allow us to land with a 10 minute delay due to traffic entering Ataturk airport. So  we had to divert, refuel, then fly back to the Ataturk Istanbul airport).

My plans to do a city bus trip tour around the city of Istanbul didn't eventuate, due to the delay, but I was greeted by friendly helpful staff and a refreshing cup of turkish tea when I arrived (2.5hrs later than the scheduled time) at the Sirkeci Konak hotel.

After meeting up with my parents and sister an hour or so after my arrival, we spent our first night wandering up to see the Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque by night.
